Release 1.0
====================
The monist console Version 1.0 is now available at www.monist.de.

====================
Project Profile
====================
Monist is a free platform for educational simulations in the neural and
cognitive sciences. It is designed to:
*** learn and teach dynamic and complex brain phenomena with educational
    simulations
*** publish and share existing resources with the monist console, a
    free, innovative web-application
*** design and customize your own units and courses with an integrated
    authoring system
*** download http://www.monist.de

====================
Application Scenarios
====================
Educational simulations, as introduced in the monist platform, can be
used in almost every learning context found in higher education, i.e.
tutorials and lectures. Simulations can be used selectively, e.g. in
experimental courses, or can be combined to complete simulation courses.
Due to the properties of the monist communication system, even blended
learning and pure online courses are possible application scenarios.

====================
Current State of Content
====================
More than 100 units with simulations are published in the monist system
and another 100 are announced for the next months. Thematically, the
units come from all fields of the neural and cognitive sciences, e.g.
demonstrations of signal processing in visual "simple cells",
simulations of biological functions such as "directional hearing",
artificial networks performing "data-mining" or psychophysical
experiments on "change blindness".

====================
Open Archive for Brain Simulation
====================
Platform and content originate from a project funded by the German
Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Now, we are heading for
extension of content in all fields of the neural and cognitive sciences.
Please feel invited to upload your content. The publication procedure is
simple, once you have installed the monist console. The editorial will
be automatically notified on your contribution and performs a simple
check.

====================
Next Steps
====================
From Open Repository To Certified Publication: Outstanding, fully
documented content may be featured in the open-access E-Journal "Brains,
Minds, Media & Education" that is currently being prepared. It will be
internationally peer-reviewed and publishes lastingly provided and
citable short-papers that complement the educational resources.
